It is neither nice nor fair to choose between your little «children», but this could be probably the best pic I took last year. I don’t have obviously all of them in mind right now, and there are many still waiting for their chance to see the light, but I have always loved this one especially.

Maryah and I had done a session in Madrid’s rooftops only a few months later, but even when I thought the results were quite interesting, she said she didn’t really liked the way she looked, her outfit… so she  proposed me to try again. She arranged a new location, a very amazing building with impressive views in the very very center of Madrid… so there we went. I remember it was an afternoon hotter than hell, probably around 35 degrees, perfect conditions to be dressed in leather on a rooftop.

The shooting didn’t have any particular secret… we just tried to shoot and not to die in the act: Maryah because of the heat and me trying not to fall into the void, because I am sure all the people who know me have CLEAR I was walking on the edge and climbing (veeeeeeeeeeery dangerous places this time) as I usually do.

We shot for approximately 1 hour… (I didn’t have more time because I had to shoot other girl in just 30 minutes) and the stuff looked so good that Maryah decided to send it to Bedeseme Magazine. I agreed, due to but last minute changes it was never published.

Processing these pics was a real pain in the ass…  not because of the pics themselves, which were quite correct, the real problem was to fix the latex (too maaaaaaany stains and imperfections), the hood (was a little big for Maryah)… It was teeeeeerrible!

There are color versions & the black and white versions you probably have already seen of this set. I’ve always been more satisfied with the black & white Helmut Newton’s look alike ones. The color ones are nice, but the black & white ones look more amazing.

By the way, I would like to add that all you see in the pic is absolutely REAL. The clouds… Maryah crawling on the edge of the building… I tell you this because as I think you already know, I am not the kind of guy who likes to add “heavens”, “clouds” or any other extra stuff to his pics. NO digital art please, just keep it photography!

No está bien ni es bonito elegir entre tus “hijos”, pero probablemente esta sea la mejor foto que hice el año pasado. Obviamente, no las tengo ahora mismo todas en mente y aun hay muchas esperando a tener su oportunidad de ver la luz, pero ésta siempre me ha gustado en especial.

Maryah y yo ya habíamos hecho una sesión en los tejados de Madrid tan solo unos meses antes, pero aun cuando a mi me parecía que los resultados habían sido bastante interesantes, ella dijo que no le gustaba como salía, ni su indumentaria… así que me propuso repetir. Consiguió una nueva localización, un edificio con unas vistas impresionantes en el centro centro de Madrid… y ahí fuimos. Recuerdo que era una tarde más calurosa que el infierno, probablemente 35 grados, vamos… condiciones perfectas para estar vestida de cuero en una azotea.

La sesión en sí no tuvo ningún secreto… solamente intentamos hacer fotos y no morir en el acto: Maryah de calor y yo cayendo al vacío, porque estoy seguro de que todos los que me conocéis tenéis CLARO que andaba caminando por el borde y subiéndome a sitios (esta vez muuuuuuuuuuuy peligrosos)  como siempre.

Hicimos fotos durante 1 hora… (no tenía más tiempo porque tenía otra sesión con otra chica en tan solo 30 minutos) y el material estaba tan bien que Maryah decidió mandarlo a la revista Bedeseme. Yo estaba de acuerdo, pero al final debido a cambios de última hora nunca se llegaron a publicar.

Procesar estas fotos fue un horror… no por las fotos en sí que estaban bastante bien hechas, el problema fue arreglar el látex (demasiadas marcas e imperfecciones), la mascara (le quedaba un poco grande a Maryah)… Fue teeeeeerrible!

Hay versión en color y en blanco y negro que probablemente ya habráis visto de todas las fotos de esta sesión. Siempre he estado más satisfecho con las de blanco y negro a lo Helmut Newton. Las de color están bien, pero las otras son mucho más llamativas.

Por cierto, me gustaría añadir que todo lo que veis en la foto es absolutamente REAL. Las nubes… Maryah gateando por el borde del edificio… Os digo esto porque  creo que ya sabéis que no soy el tipo de tío al que le gusta añadir “cielos”, “nubes” o cualquier otra cosa extra a sus fotos. NO arte digital, mantenla fotografía!

It ‘s been some months since I had the intention of posting this picture but I hadn’t found the right time… I decided to recover it from my lost files when I was asked to send some stuff for a magazine, tough unfortunately it didn’t make it into the final article.

The good thing about reviewing old stuff is you usually find wonderful surprises… and looking back to the stuff I own, I am sure there will be many more I bring back to life from this session.  I am not going to talk about that photo shoot, if you want to know a little bit more about it I recommend you to read the article I dedicated to Marisel long time ago.

Looking back those photographies, that was a very incredible day, I got a fantastic pic every time I pressed the shooter … in fact I consider I took one of my very best / fav pics ever that day. No one has ever been able to look at me in the same intense way as Marisel did that August afternoon (my lost soul I threw to the sea).
The scene has always reminded me of a postcard… especially revealed in black & white with some grain… And by the way, it is a perfect example of a “photoshop free” picture.

Niko and Marisel were as spectacular as cute; they ate the camera with their impressive presences… I’m very sad that love had to end, but everything dies anyway. I guess they will always stay as a couple in my memories… I only hope my pics don’t ever become painful in their hearts, it would make me very sad.

Thanks for having been the cutest couple I’ve ever shot, and for keep on being such a pair of lovely friends.

Llevaba algunos meses con la intención de subir esta foto pero no daba encontrado el momento adecuado…  Decidí recuperarla de mis archivos perdidos cuando me pidieron fotos para una revista, aunque desafortunadamente no entro en el articulo final.

Lo bueno de revisar material antiguo es que normalmente te encuentras con sorpresas agradables…  y mirando atrás al material que tengo, estoy seguro de que voy a rescatar mas de esa sesión.  No voy a hablar de ella, si queréis saber algo mas os recomiendo que leáis el artículo que dedique a Marisel hace tiempo.

Echando un ojo a esas  fotografías, ese fue un día increíble,  me salía una fantástica cada vez que apretaba el disparador … de hecho considero que hice una de mis fotos mejores / favoritas esa tarde. Nadie ha sido capaz de volverme a mirar en la forma que lo hizo Marisel esa tarde Agosto (mi alma perdida arrojé al mar).

La escena siempre me ha recordado a una postal … especialmente así revelada en blanco y negro con grano… Y por cierto, es un muy buen ejemplo de “photoshop free”  eso de que los amantes del photoshop presumen un día que no lo usan (o eso nos quieren hacer creer).

Niko y Marisel eran tan sumamente espectaculares como encantadores; se comían la cámara con esas presencias tan brutales… Me entristece saber que ese amor se tuvo que terminar, pero todo muere. Imagino que en mis recuerdos siempre permanecerán como pareja… Tan solo espero que mis fotos no les resulten dolorosas, me pondría triste.

Muchas gracias por haber sido la pareja mas guay que nunca he afotado y por seguir siendo ese buen par de amigos.

Deadlywood #11 (Redux) – María Moya

It´s time to talk in DEADLYWOOD about one of my fav pics and about one which I am especially proud of, María Moya‘s.

María is a fantastic make up artist I was lucky to know during one of my trips to Madrid to work with my big friend Rodrigo Uquillas (hey hey Rodri!) owner of Flash In Studio. But not only María is a very good make up artist, but also is really good at posing, so I definitely had to shoot her.

My initial idea for the pic was very simple, I just wanted a black and white naked picture, three quarters, where more than the fact of the naked body, were her hair, her eyes and (obviously) her tattoo which really caught the attention of the beholder.

But suddenly an octopus crawled into the studio and both, Rodri and I, thought that if María didn´t run away or looked at us with weird face, we would probably get an awesome shot, because of how visually impacting it would be and also for the interesting textures which the octopus would add to the black and white.

I took several pictures, not too many, and almost immediately I got the one I was looking for, which is the one you see. Sometimes I get good pics I love, but maybe they don´t match 100% with the idea I had in mind. But I must say this time I was really satisfied.

I would like to add that some people has accused me “you´ve copied this pic from…”, “ someone else has already taken this one…”. I must certainly say NO, I didn´t copy it from anybody because everything was a pure coincidence: my initial idea didn´t include any octopus as pet. I think it´s almost impossible to do something that hasn´t already been done in photography nowadays, and if isnt´t, I don´t think it´s me who is going to make it. All I tried to do was something with my style for a beautiful friend like María… as long as she is happy with the results, the rest of opinions, which I respect, I don´t really care about. Other of the typical questions many people asked me was “was the octopus alive???”. “Oh yes madam… can´t you see how healthy it looks and how strongly it grasps the girl?.”

Besides, as I told you in the beginning, I like this pic a lot and I have a special sympathy because it shows María just like I met her, before her BEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUTIFUL dark hair had suffered a terrible accident, really really serious… I think it is a very nice memory of the time when she had that hair. You´ll see soon new stuff with her new look since I have another photo shoot kept inside my magic vault, but probably you are not going to recognize her…

To put an end to today´s post… retouching: gentlemen, look for, compare and if you find something… but I already tell you NO. The only thing I did was to achieve a black and white which emphasized the octopus texture and the tattoo. As certain ‘friend’ of mine would say: “photoshop free”.

María…  very big kiss, thanks for having helped me to achieve an unforgettable shot and don´t worry, you still look beautiful and hair grows again. Next time I´ll party with my favourite make up artist!!!!

Hoy en DEADLYWOOD toca hablar de una de mis fotos favoritas y de las que más orgulloso me siento, la de mi queridísima María Moya.

María es una fantástica maquilladora que tuve la suerte de conocer en uno de mis viajes a Madrid para trabajar con mi gran amigo Rodrigo Uquillas (hey hey Rodri!) del Flash In Studio. Pero María no solo maquilla de una forma espectacular, sino que es una auténtica maravilla posando, así que tenía que hacerle fotos, sí o sí.

Mi idea inicial era muy básica, solamente quería un desnudo en blanco y negro, de tres cuartos, en el que más que el desnudo en sí, fuesen su cabello, su mirada y (como no…) su tatuaje quienes acaparasen toda la atención del espectador.

Pero de repente apareció por el estudio un pulpo y tanto Rodri como yo pensamos que si María no se escapaba ni ponía cara rara, podríamos conseguir una toma espectacular, por lo impactante visualmente y por el juego de texturas que iba a proporcionar el pulpo en blanco y negro.

Hice una serie de fotos, no demasiadas tampoco, y casi al instante conseguí la que quería, que es exactamente la que veis. Muchas veces consigo fotos buenas, que me gustan, pero que a lo mejor no coinciden al 100% con la idea que tengo en mente, porque no soy capaz de llevar a la realidad la idea que tengo en la cabeza. Pero he de decir que en este caso, me quedé súper satisfecho.

Algo que me gustaría comentar es que cierta gente me ha dicho “esta foto la copiaste de no sé donde…”, “ esta foto ya la hizo no sé quien…” Pues tengo que decir rotundamente que NO, que no la copié de nadie porque todo surgió de una forma muy casual: en mi idea inicial no aparecía ningún pulpo como animal de compañía. Creo que a día de hoy, hacer algo en fotografía que no esté inventado es prácticamente imposible, y si no lo es, no creo que vaya a lograrlo yo. Lo único que traté fue de hacer algo con mi estilo para una bellísima persona como es María… mientras ella esté contenta con el retrato, el resto de opiniones, que se respetan, me son un poco indiferentes. Otra de las preguntas graciosas que me hizo el personal fue “el pulpo estaba vivo???”. “Sí señora… no ve que aspecto de sanote tiene y como se agarra a la chica?.”

Además como, os contaba al principio, a esta foto además de gustarme muchísimo, le tengo un cariño muy especial, porque representa a María tal y como la conocí, antes de que su PRECIOOOOOOOOSÍSIMA melena sufriese un grave percance, pero muuuuuy grave… Creo que es un recuerdo muy bonito de cuando tenía el pelo así de largo. Pronto veréis material con su nuevo look, aunque probablemente no la reconozcáis, ya que le hice otra sesión fantástica que tengo guardada en mi caja fuerte mágica.

Para cerrar el post de hoy… tema retoque: señores, busquen, comparen y si encuentran algo… pero ya les digo yo que no. Lo único que hice fue buscar un blanco y negro muy potente, que resaltase la textura del pulpo y al tatuaje. Como diría cierta ¨amiga¨ mía, “photoshop free”.

María… un besazo enooooorme, muchísimas gracias por haberme ayudado a conseguir una foto inolvidable y ánimo que sigues estando súper linda y el pelo crece. La próxima vez de fiesta con mi maquilladora favorita!!!!

I really felt like showing you some new stuff this Wednesday morning, so after having today’s DEADLYWOOD‘s entry translated and ready to be posted, and providing the stuff I am working at the moment cannot be shown yet, I looked inside my vault for a picture I’ve had in mind for a very loooong time.

What I have for you belongs to a very troubled shooting with the beautiful Nerea which happened last year. I won’t tell the whole story, but just for you to have an idea, the police kicked us out of our marvellous location in only five minutes, so I had immediately to think of another one.

Most of the pictures of this photo shoot have been resting in my archive of ‘lost pictures’ for different reasons, especially for lack of time, some issues and misunderstandings I had with Nerea in the past (which have fortunately been solved) and also because I had a very clear idea of how some pics should look like and I hadn’t been able to translate it from my mind to my computer screen.

My intention for the series (more pics to come…) was to show a black and white portrait – old Hollywood movie star style – which showed all her charm, beauty, glamour and attitude.. I hope it’s been worth the waiting.

Me apetecía mucho mostraros material nuevo esta mañana de miércoles, así que después de haber preparado y traducido mi entrada de hoy de DEADLYWOOD y teniendo en cuenta que todavía no puedo mostraros todavía en lo que ando trabajando, fui a buscar a mi archivo una foto que tenía en mente desde hacía mucho tiempo.

Lo que tengo para vosotros pertenece a una sesión con la guapa Nerea que tuvo lugar el año pasado. No os voy a contar toda la historia, pero para que os hagáis una idea, la policía nos echó de nuestra maravillosa localización en tan solo cinco minutos, así que tuve que pensar en otra al momento.

La mayor parte de las fotos de esta sesión han permanecido en mi archivo de ‘fotos perdidas’ por varias razones, especialmente por falta de tiempo, problemillas y malentendidos que tuve con Nerea ahí atrás (y que ya han sido resueltos afortunadamente) y también porque tenía una idea muy clara en mente de como quería que fuesen las fotos y que no había sido capaz de traducir de mi cabeza a la pantalla.

La intención para esta serie (habrá más fotos…) era presentar un retrato en blanco y negro – al estilo clásico de estrella de Hollywood – que mostrase todo su encanto, belleza, glamour y actitud…  espero que la espera haya merecido la pena.

Deadlywood #1 – Sofía Hernández

I had met Sofía Hernández for more or less three years, (or Sophie Paranoid, as her artistic name said…) thanks to some pics of my friend Jotace Unaimagen. First time I met her in person was queueing at the door of a local near the Santo Domingo Square in Madrid. My first impression was like «BRUTAL… Sofía is BRUTAAAAAAAAAAAL… we’ll do something together someday…»

And that’s the way it was. A few months later, and after having talked to her about a photo session, we made an appointment at 10 am in a cold October morning from last year. Sofía came straight from work, she had barely slept for a couple of hours, but even in a situation like that, she brought all that presence, attitude and attractive which characterizes her.

She had to «suffer» a studio session which took from 10 in the morning to 8 in the evening… snakes, chains, deadly outfits, fetishism… and a brief series of pictures in a very cute well in Tenerife Street.

The pic, as you may notice right after, it’s a very simple one, but that I think it catches all the power, attractive and beauty which Sofia treasures… a girl with a very rough look who is a true love. One of my fav models forever. She does not need any colour to shine.

Regarding to the way in which I processed the picture, I did almost nothing. I just turned it into black and white and not much more. Girls who are really gorgeous do not need any tricks.

Sofía Hernandez

Conocía a Sofía Hernández desde hacía unos 3 años, (o Sophie Paranoid, como se hacía llamar…) de unas fotos que le había visto a mi amigo Jotace Unaimagen.  La primera vez que me la encontré en persona fue haciendo cola en la puerta de un garito cerca de la plaza de Santo Domingo. Mi primera impresión fue «BRUTAL… Sofía es BRUTAAAAAAAAAAAL… algún día haremos algo juntos…»

Y así fue. Unos meses más tarde y después de haberle planteado una sesión, quedamos a las 10 de la mañana de un frío domingo de Octubre del año pasado. Sofía venía directa del trabajo, creo que apenas había dormido un par de horas, pero aun así, traía consigo toda esa presencia, actitud y atractivo que la caracterizan.

Tuvo que «sufrir» una sesión de estudio que duró desde las 10 de la mañana hasta las 8 de la tarde… serpientes, cadenas, estilismos mortales, fetichismo… y una pequeña serie de fotos en un patio de luces muy fotogénico de la calle Tenerife.

La foto, como podréis ver a continuación es una foto sencilla, pero que creo que recoge toda la fuerza, atractivo y belleza que atesora Sofía… una niña de aspecto muy duro que es un auténtico amor.  Una de mis modelos favoritas. No necesita color para brillar.

A nivel de procesado apenas tuve que hacer nada. Pasarla a blanco y negro y muy poquito más. Las chicas guapas de verdad no necesitan trucos.
