There hasn´t been a single day in the last months I haven´t seriously wondered if I should continue taking pictures. It is a question I haven´t found the answer yet and which arises basically for two reasons.

First, the doubts about  my capacity to surprise MYSELF with my creations. Looking back to all those pictures I´ve taken and to the big amount of stuff that hasn´t seen the light of day yet, I have strong doubts about if I can currently generate that kind of so unique and so special images nowadays. I believe, sincerely, that I have created very nice and shocking stuff, but I feel like if I already haven´t that capacity of generating unforgettable moments like it has happened in the past. Honesty and selfcriticism should be the main virtues of an artist.

Second, the outrageous disenchantment which brings the current photographic scene. I am highly bored and fed up of finding everyday the same pics, of the same photographers, shooting always the same girls, with the same porcelain faces, with the same concepts, with the same outfits and with the same lack of originallity and ideas in pictures without soul which transmit absolutely nothing, pointing only to feed their creator’s egos (who they even think they are good). Pictures of copycats of copycats who have sold their creativity in exchange of applying four tricks learnt in workshops of people who believe they are able to teach “photography”. It is really disappointing to see how people try to imitate, to create the same picture, the same style… of people with questionable taste. Honestly, I dont want to have anything to do with that photographic perversion.

In my particular case, I can´t help surprising myslef everytime I go over that “forgotten” stuff  accumulated in the last four years and that hasn´t seen the light yet. Exactly what happened with the picture I show you today… It belongs to a shoot I had with Ninwen in Madrid last year. As soon as I saw this pic I thought it was BRUTAL, best of that day… so I rushed to process it. To my surprise, Ninwen was not very convinced with the background, so she asked me to replace it, to add some kind of texture… But I refused absolutely: it goes against my photographic principles, I am kinda lazy about that kind of practices nowadays, so the picture remain lost in limbo… Until yesterday when during one of our funny conversations, she told me she has found the picture and that she loved the way in which it had been processes… There´s nothing that time can´t heal 🙂

Durante los últimos meses no ha habido un solo día en el cual me no me haya cuestionado seriamente si debería continuar sacando fotos.  Es una pregunta a la que todavía no he encontrado respuesta y que viene motivada principalmente por dos razones.

La primera, las dudas acerca de mi capacidad para sorprenderME con mis creaciones. Mirando atrás todas las fotos que he hecho y a la gran cantidad de material que no ha visto la luz, tengo serias dudas acerca de si a día de hoy soy capaz de generar ese tipo de imágenes tan sumamente únicas y especiales. Creo, sinceramente, que he hecho cosas muy buenas y llamativas, pero siento que tal vez ya no tenga esa capacidad de generar momentos inolvidables como ha sucedido en el pasado. La honestidad y la autocrítica deben ser las principales virtudes de un artista.

La segunda, el gran desencanto que me brinda el panorama fotográfico actual. Estoy sumamente harto y aburrido de encontrarme día tras día las mismas fotos de los mismos fotógrafos recurriendo siempre, a las mismas modelos, con las mismas caras de porcelana, con los mismos motivos, con los mismos estilismos y con la misma falta de originalidad e ideas en fotos sin alma que no transmiten nada y que solo sirven para autoalimentar el ego de sus creadores (que hasta se creen buenos). Fotos de imitadores de imitadores que ha vendido su creatividad a cambio de aplicar cuatro trucos de retoque aprendidos en talleres de gente que se cree con la capacidad de enseñar “fotografía”. Es realmente triste comprobar como se trata de imitar, de conseguir la misma foto, el mismo estilo…  de gente de dudoso gusto. Sinceramente no quiero tener nada que ver con esa perversión fotográfica.

En mi caso particular, no dejo de sorprenderme cuando repaso todo ese material “olvidado” acumulado en los últimos cuatro años y que todavía no ha visto la luz. Es el caso de la foto que hoy os presento…. Pertenece a una sesión que hicimos Ninwen y yo en Madrid el año pasado. Según vi esa foto me pareció BRUTAL, la mejor de ese día… así que me apresuré a editarla. Para mi sorpresa, a Ninwen no le convenció demasiado el fondo, y me pidió que se lo cambiase, que le pusiese alguna textura… Pero me negué rotundamente: a día de hoy soy súper contrario a ese tipo de prácticas, va bastante contra mis principios, con lo cual la foto se quedó perdida en el limbo… Hasta ayer que durante una de nuestras divertidas charlas me contó que la había encontrado y que le había encantado tal y como la había procesado….  No hay nada que el tiempo no cure 🙂
