Ninel was my first international model. I can still remember with love my debut as a photographer in Athens: a shoot where it took no more than five minutes to be told to leave the Acropolis, a sacred place which was supposed to deserve some respect, and it looked like my girls’ outfits were not very suitable for the place. One of the was Ninel and the other her inseparable friend Zoriana.
A very strong friendship was born that day, which still grows stronger and stronger nowadays, in fact everytime I travel to Athens there are two people I am obliged to shoot. One of them is Cate and the other is Ninel, who is not only pretty, crazy and funny but also a really amazing make up artist, stylist and photographer. Whatever you do with her, the result is always amazing.
During one of my trips to Athens, I spent several days trying to find her in order to shoot her, but problems with her cell prevented me from contacting her until almost my last day there. As it was already too late to do something together, I invited her to join me in the photo shoot I had planned that afternoon with my loved Cate.
I was shooting Cate at Syntagma Park, just beside the famous Greek Parliament (especially famous for the riots which take place there so often) and today’s pic in DEADLYWOOD was born in a very unexpected way. Ninel was sit there, watching how I worked, and while Cate was taking some rest, I got closer to her in order to take just three or four pictures to keep as a memory of that day since I was not going to shoot her. In fact she wasn’t even posing.
And I found this pic I loved from the very first moment among those shots. Ninel left me in love with her eyes, expression… the pic transmitted me such a large amount of sweetness, peace, harmony, that it became the very best one of that afternoon. In fact, the thorn I’ve got stuck is not having included any Cate‘s in DEADLYWOOD. But that’s the way photography is, something unique happens when you are not expecting it and, nevertheless, sometimes you prepare many things and you are not able to surprise anyone with anything. So… let’s keep on improving.
Talking about the processing, well… I didn’t do too much. I turned her skin a little bit paler just to prevent the cold from being shown on her face, added a little bit of saturation to the hair, and enhaced also a little bit her eyes. Nothing else. The pic was already good by itself, so there was no need of overprocessing it, it is always good to know where to stop.
That’s all in our trip through DEADLYWOOD‘s streets today. Ride is over, not without sending a big hug and an even bigger kiss to this talented ukranian angel living in Athens My Wild Rose…

Ninel fue mi primera modelo internacional. Todavía recuerdo con mucho cariño mi debut en Atenas: una sesión en la que no tardaron ni cinco minutos en echarnos de la Acrópolis, alegando que era un lugar sagrado, que merecía un respeto y que las indumentarias de mis niñas no eran muy respetuosas con el escenario. Una de ellas era Ninel, y la otra su inseparable Zoriana.
Aquel día se forjó una gran amistad que sigue igual de fuerte a día de hoy, de hecho, siempre que viajo a Atenas, hay dos personas a las que es obligatorio hacerle fotos. Una de ellas es Cate, y otra Ninel, que no solo es guapa, loca y divertida, sino que es un auténtico prodigio como maquilladora, estilista y fotógrafa. Se haga lo que se haga con ella, siempre sale bien.
En uno de mis viajes a Atenas, me tiré varios días intentando localizarla para hacerle fotos, pero problemas con su móvil se encargaron de que no diese con ella hasta casi mi último día allí. Como ya era demasiado tarde para hacer algo juntos y teníamos que vernos, la invité a que se viniese a la sesión que tenía esa tarde con mi queridísima Cate.
Estuve haciéndole fotos a Cate en el parque de Syntagma, justo al lado del famoso parlamento griego (principalmente por las revueltas que allí tienen lugar cada dos por tres) y la foto que hoy os presento en DEADLYWOOD surgió de una forma totalmente inesperada. Ninel estaba sentada viendo como trabajaba, y en uno de los ratos en los que le daba descanso a Cate, me acerqué a ella para hacerle tres o cuatro fotos sin demasiadas pretensiones, más que nada para llevarme algo de recuerdo ya que al final no iba a poder trabajar con ella. De hecho, no estaba ni posando.
Y entre esas fotos se encontraba ésta que tanto me gustó desde el primer momento. Ninel me dejó enamoradito de sus ojos, de su expresión… la foto me transmitió semejante dulzura, paz y armonía, que al final fue de lo mejorcito de aquella tarde. De hecho, si una espinita tengo clavada es no poder haber incluido ninguna foto de Cate en DEADLYWOOD. Pero así es la fotografía, en el momento más inesperado surge algo único, y sin embargo, en sesiones preparadísimas no se consigue sorprender a nadie con nada. En fin… a seguir mejorando.
En el aspecto del procesado, pues no hice demasiado. Empalidecí la piel, principalmente para que se notase menos el frío en su cara, añadí un poquitín de saturación al pelo y realcé un poquito los ojos. Nada más. La foto ya era buena de por sí, no hacía ninguna falta sobreprocesarla, siempre es bueno saber donde hay que parar.
Y esto es todo por hoy en nuestro viaje por las calles de DEADLYWOOD . El trayecto de hoy finaliza aquí, pero no sin antes mandarle un abrazo enorme y un beso todavía mucho mayor a esta belleza ucraniana residente en Atenas. Mi Wild Rose…
